What is Machine Utilisation?

The machine utilisation calculation is the actual time a machine is in a productive (running) state over the defined time period, divided by the total number of available hours in that same time period. It’s actually a very simple calculation but the huge advantage of collecting machine utilisation data in Seiki AIR, is that your analytics are updated in real-time. This means that you’re always working with the very latest information and can make informed decisions, based on facts.

There are multiple interactive charts built in to Seiki AIR to enable you to instantly filter and analyse machine utilisation data. Drill down into each Status Category for a more detailed look at all the events occurring on your resource. For example, you might want to see how long you spent waiting for maintenance or when the resource was running in a non-optimal state. The data can also be exported in formats such as .xlsx, .dat, .csv, .doc, HTML and PDF for subsequent reporting and analysis.

Collecting relevant, accurate and timely data and improving your data flow is a good start but to be successful you need people to use and analyse it.

  • You can create as many Analytics user accounts in Seiki AIR as you need. This means you can give more people access to the insights and information you’ve collected through machine monitoring, so that everyone can help to generate ideas and take action to help improve performance.
  • The status grid is fully configurable. This means that you can continue to define downtime codes that will answer specific questions and derive meaningful data as you start to get a clearer picture of your resource activity.
  • Machine utilisation data will provide the insights you need for continuous improvements. It should be used daily by supervisors to respond to sudden changes or unexpected events to be able to take short term tactical remedial actions. The data should also be reviewed regularly at a management level to set and track performance targets, and identify strategic improvement initiatives.
